The Inner Mongolian Grasslands
Posted on December 05 2016
A long and tiring overnight journey from smog-filled Beijing brought us to the vast, pristine expanses of the Mongolian grassland. We spent the day on a Mongolian-run farm in the middle of the Xilarumen Grasslands, amongst the sheep and pet camels. The owners insisted we stay in their "luxury" yurt, complete with ensuite bathroom (with no door!) and traditional stone-filled pillows, for a good night sleep. Despite the minor inconveniences (who needs a bathroom door!), our experience was incredible. Surrounded by large windmills and large, open spaces, we literally spent the day completely unconnected to the world outside. While at the market nearby, we found some beautiful handmade jewelry, inspired by the use of turquoise and coral in local jewelry as well as the breathtaking scenery and colors of the Mongolian grasslands. You can find our Mongolian jewelry here. Have you been to Inner Mongolia? We've love to hear from you!
